THE ARMENIAN MASTER CRAFTSMEN WERE GENERATIONAL BUILDERS.
THE TRADITIONS AND THE SECRETS OF THE CRAFT WERE PASSED
FROM GENERATION TO GENERATION -- FROM FATHER TO SON --
FROM VARPET [MASTER] TO ASHAKERT [PUPIL] GOING BACK TO TIME IMMEMORIAL.

SELECTED FAMILIES POSSESSED THE EXCLUSIVE "COPYRIGHT"
PRIVILEGE ALONG WITH THE ACCOMPANYING KNOWLEDGE OF WHERE, WHEN, WHY
AND HOW TO ERECT HOLY TEMPLES, PALACES, FORTRESSES AND OTHER BUILDINGS.
MANY OF THE STRUCTURES, ESPECIALLY SACRED TEMPLES AND PALACES
-- PLACES OF SPIRITUAL AND SECULAR POWER RESPECTIVELY --
WERE ONLY DEEMED COMPLETE IF THEY CONTAINED THE SYMBOLS THAT
CODIFIED IN STONE THEIR TRUE MEANING FOR THE MANY GENERATIONS TO FOLLOW.

Khachkars constitute an integral dimension of Armenian sculptural art; with their high artistic standards and strong national character, they also occupy their worthy position in the treasury of international art. Khachkars are also an expression of the high aesthetical taste of the Armenian nation and the great masters that crafted them. Recently in a sign of respect and gratitude by the international community, one of the medieval khachkars from Armenia has been moved and placed in the front entrance of the Main Hall of the United Nations in New York.

Khachkars or Cross Stones, were hand crafted by talented Armenian
master craftsmen, who transformed inorganic material into
living symbols of Sacredness and Devotion.
