THE LATE M. SARIAN...A XXTH CENTURY ARMENIAN ARTIST WHO CONTINUED
THE MILLENNIA OLD PAINTING AND ILLUMINATION OF THE ARMENIAN MASTERS
WHO THROUGH THEIR ART EXALTED THE ESSENCE OF LIFE MANIFESTED
THROUGH LIGHT, COLOR, FORM, NATURE [FLORA AND FAUNA]
INCLUDING FLOWERS, BIRDS, VEGETATIVE GREENERY AS SYMBOLS
OF THE SACREDNESS OF LIFE/FERTILITY.

Colour is everything, it is a real wonder. Colour should express our understanding of the ESSENCE of Life. With colour I can get a stronger hold on what I see, I can add to the resonance of Light.

We are linked to the Sun, it has been pulling the Earth after it since time began. Where to, we do not know. New generations come but the Sun always stays with us, with every one of us. Let us be true to this Order of things. Let us cherish Life, Light and Love, and use our Labour to justify the trust Nature has put in us.

Nature is always beautiful everywhere because it is pure. The peoples of the Earth complement one another to make up a Whole. The Stronger and purer the national traits, the more fascinating and rewarding the Whole. Thus, the whole is as much national, as it is universally Human.

What is more beautiful than flowers, nature's adornment, be they in the mountains, the canyons or the fields. Even in bustling cities the sight of flowers on sale in the streets gladdens the heart. How lovely bunches of flowers are! The pure colours of flowers, so lucid an so deep at the same time, are equaled only by the feathers of birds and by fruit.

STATUE OF THE IMMORTAL DEVOTEE OF LIGHT IN THE HEART OF THE CAPITAL

The Earth is a living being endowed with its own soul. One can never discover one's true self unless one has close ties with one's native land. I am convinced that no artist has ever cut himself off from his native soil. The heart of the Earth is the heart of Man. And this heart is the source of all being.

As Man seeks to penetrate the heart of the Universe, he comes to realize its Infinity. Man conceives his Immortality as constant self-assertion in the Universe, Nature and Life. More than any other are of human endeavour, Art enables people to grasp the Idea of Immortality directly through instincts, senses and reason. Art harbours the Immortality of the Human Spirit. Remember, Art is the proud wreath of self-awareness and self-admiration with which Humanity has crowned itself.

As I started out, as an artist, I was fascinated by the fabulous elements of Nature. I had to discover media and forms to convey at least some of my enchantment. I had to get rid of the precepts I had been taught, so mundane and obtrusive, and to find my own idiom, forgetting that of other. I began to look for more stable and simpler forms and colours to convey the pictorial Essence of reality. My overall goal has been to achieve with very simple means, without any ponderousness, the maximum expression, and specifically to do away with the half-tints of compromise. Moreover, my goal has been to convey the fundamental principles of realism. By this I mean that power of expression with which all true works of Art have been invested, from antiquity to our own day--or rather, that captivating power of Art which every period has striven to attain in its own way.

Nature's ways are wonderful and unfathomable. The grain swells in the soil, the sprout grows and flowers when the time comes and then it bears new fruit and so does not die. We are like grain. We never die because we are One with Nature. To understand this is to comprehend Immortality--the Apotheosis of the Human Race. It is with this conviction that I have lived my Life. My Life is a store of my experience, a Life of aspirations, sorrows, joys and triumphs.
