Yerevan is one of the oldest continuously inhabited settlements. Archaeologists have unearthed many tools dating back to Stone Age, most notably in the Shengavit district of modern Yerevan.

The earliest layers of Shengavit. Artifacts unearthed during the excavations include -- tools made of stone, flint and obsidian. These tools were made by the early hunter and gatherers as weapons for hunting, defense and also among other things dissecting meat of the hunted animals.
