THE COMPLEX

The Yerevan Complex Center precedes the Memorial Monument of the Armenian Genocide. Its futuristic shape of a Reborn Phoenix -- is symbolic of the nation that rose from its own ashes. The Complex Center holds many different international events, celebrations and concerts. In 1996 the Center hosted the Chess Olympiad, bring the best chess grand masters of the world to a nation that prides itself in boasting the largest amount of adept chess players. The Armenian chess team has in recent years won numerous international chess competitions. In 2000, the Complex was named after late Step'an Demirchian [assassinated by terrorists on October 27, 1999], the First Secretary of the Second Socialist Republic between 1974-1988.
