ZVARTNOTS INTERNATIONAL

The Zvartnots International Airport was completed in 1981. It combines elements of modern and as well as traditional architecture. After 1991, air travel became an effective way of breaking the Azeri imposed economic blockade. Zvartnots International Airport provided a direct link of not only charter-travel, but as well as cargo shipments that proved to be essential for the progress and forbearance of the Third Republic. Recently the airport was leased to the management of Eduardo Ernekian, an Argentine based international airport tycoon of Armenian descent. Eduardo Ernekian, who owns and operates dozens of airports throughout the world -- most numerous in the Latin American countries -- has pledged to further increase the capacities of the Zvartnots International Airport by investing about 100 million dollars into the main facilities.
